Biography
Associate Professor Cheng-Hon Yap is a Cardiothoracic Surgeon located at University Hospital Geelong and St John of God Geelong Hospital, where he is also the Clinical Lead of Cardiac Services. He holds positions as an Affiliate Associate Professor in the School of Medicine, Faculty of Health at Deakin University and is an Adjunct Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences at the Monash University.

Associate Professor Yap completed his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery at the University of Melbourne in 1998, and later obtained his Master of Surgery by thesis, from his research on cryopreserved allograft heart valves. He underwent training at The Royal Melbourne Hospital, St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne and the Austin Hospital, completing his fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2011. Following this, he completed Cardiac Surgery Clinical post-fellowship training at the Bristol Heart Institute, UK.

Dr Yap performs a wide range of cardio-thoracic procedures including VATS and robotic lung and mediastinal procedures, aortic surgery, coronary bypass and cardiac valve procedures. He has an interest in off-pump coronary bypass surgery, and minimally invasive aortic and coronary surgery. He frequently travels to South East Asia to share his minimally invasive valve surgery techniques. He also has an interest in surgical video acquisition and production.
