Osteopathy training
Osteopathy is a holistic approach to healthcare that emphasizes the interrelationship of the body's structure and function in maintaining overall health. Osteopathic physicians, known as DOs (Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine), use a hands-on, manual approach to diagnosis and treatment. They consider the musculoskeletal system, along with other bodily systems, in their assessments.
Osteopathy aims to improve the body's self-healing and self-regulating mechanisms by addressing musculoskeletal imbalances. Osteopathic physicians may use techniques such as osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) to enhance mobility, relieve pain, and support the body's natural healing processes. Osteopathy is not limited to musculoskeletal concerns and often incorporates a broader perspective on health, including lifestyle factors and preventive measures. Osteopathic physicians collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive and patient-centered care.
