Case description

A 65-year-old female patient with a history of malignant neoplasia of the lower rectum underwent abdominoperineal resection following total neoadjuvant therapy (TNT). She experienced necrosis of the terminal stoma, which involved the descending colon up to the splenic flexure. An exploratory laparoscopy was performed, followed by resection of the affected intestinal segment and a terminal colostomy with the left transverse colon, changing the colostomy site (right flank, supraumbilical). After this surgery, she was discharged and presented with colostomy prolapse, which was treated with open surgery involving remodeling and resection of the intestinal segment of the colon. However, three weeks later, the prolapse recurred, requiring her to be readmitted to the operating room for remodeling of the prolapse with laparoscopic assistance and open surgery.
