Case description

Surgical video of lateral meniscus transplant technique (biologic joint replacement) narrated by Dr. Kevin Stone.
‘Lateral meniscus replacement in the arthritic knee presents some unusual challenges. First of all the rough surfaces can abrade in the meniscus implant. However patient with rough surfaces are just the ones who benefit from having a new lateral meniscus. The steps involved are first examination and cleanup of the joint. Next we torn remnant of the lateral meniscus is debrieded back to its stable base. Taking care to preserve as much of the remnants as possible in order to prevent lateral meniscus subluxation.’
In this case cadaveric lateral meniscus came with the half bone block and was carefully divided and cut free from the tibial plateau with preservations of synovial attachments on the side of meniscus cartilage itself. The video contains step-by-step explanation and postoperative recommendations. Patients with lateral meniscus transplants, have been successful in returning to full sports, since the meniscus transplant seems to provide an excellent shock absorber for the joint.
