Case description

What happens when surgery doesn't go as planned? In this #LiveSurgeryTuesday episode, Dr. Alejandro Badia explores a complex case involving a 38-year-old female patient with severe rheumatoid arthritis. Experiencing progressive left-hand dominant wrist and finger pain with limited motion, she initially went in for an arthroplasty. However, as Dr. Badia explains, "in surgery, you have to pivot." When the initial plan wasn't viable, the surgical team did the right thing for the patient's long-term stability by performing a PIP joint fusion and a soft tissue sling fascial arthroplasty. Watch as Dr. Badia walks through the intraoperative decisions, the successful stabilization of the joint, and the next steps for her recovery in a cast.
