Case description

This video shows an enucleation procedure on the prostate of a man with a very large prostate utilizing robotic surgery. This is not a cancer case, but rather treats extreme cases of benign enlarged prostate, or BPH. In this case, the prostate is large but not exceedingly so. The robotic approach was used because the patient also has a large stone present in the bladder. Here, the bladder is opened, and the prostate adenoma is enucleated from its outer capsule from within the bladder. This procedure can also be performed via an open incision, but the robotic approach affords perhaps faster recovery and less blood loss.
