Case description

This video shows robotic right adrenalectomy because of functional adenoma. Functional adrenal adenoma secreting large, uncontrolled amount of steroid hormones is one of the cause of Cushing's syndrome. In this case, the patient presented with depression, psychotic symptoms, weight gain, increased facial hairs, abdominal strias, skin pigmentatation and raised blood pressure. MRI, CT and blood investigations were suggestive of functional adrenal adenoma. Robotic surgery provided minimal invasive approach with less than 5 ml blood loss and faster recovery. Patient showed significant improvement in depression and resolution of psychotic symptoms. It needs and expert endocrinologist to pick up the early signs and initiate the investigations. Results of surgery are dramatic and very satisfying, for both the patient and the treating physician. Author of this video is DrRajiv Yadav from India.
