Case description

Nasopharynx as a hidden part of the nose is not easily visualized. It is traditionally examined indirectly by using a postnasal mirror and reflected light. And the anterior rhinoscopic examination is limited to mid-nasal cavity. Due to the endoscopic technology advancement it is possible to examine this part of the nose through the nasal passage or transorally. In this video we can see an examination where a 70 degrees rigid endoscope looking upward and anteriorly towards the posterior nasal cavity was used to approach via transoral nasopharyngoscopic the nasopharynx. We can see its anatomy very clearly. (W-posterior nasopharyngeal wall, R- roof of nasopharynx, S- posterior nasal septum made by vomeric bone and its overlying mucosa, MT- middle turbinate, IT- inferior turbinate, Green arrow- eustachian tube opening, blue arrow leads to sphenoid ostium, red oval- fossa of Rossenmuller). NB: On the left side the superior turbinate can be seen partly. The left side of the video corresponds to left side of the patient and the right side of the video corresponds to the right side of the patient.
