Case description

44-year-old female patient (BMI 19.5) with intra-anal rectal adenocarcinoma (Roullier type 3). In preoperative MRI/CT - T2N0M0, no involvement of external anal sphincter. She underwent neoadjuvant radiotherapy and surgery 8 weeks after completion of radiotherapy. The patient was scheduled for laparoscopic intersphincteric resection with full resection of the internal anal sphincter. She was fully explained the benefits and potential drawbacks of the procedure. Nevertheless, she was strongly against a permanent stoma and therefore she agreed to this kind of surgery.
