How is a Conventional (Sutured) Aortic Valve Implanted at Aortic Valve Replacement Surgery
Case description
This video shows how an aortic valve prosthesis is implanted by suturing it into place. The patient had severe aortic valve stenosis requiring aortic valve replacement surgery. In addition there was an aneurysm (dilatation) of the ascending aorta and thus this was excised and replaced (not shown in video). Because the ascending aorta has been removed the exposure of the aortic valve is excellent. We have deliberately left the video minimally edited to convey the surgeon's point of view during the surgery and allow an appreciation of the cadence and workflow of the surgery. The video was captured with a head-mounted surgical camera, the Parallel Medical Clinical Camera (https://www.parallel-medical.com/).
