Case description

Doctor Domenico Mazitelli performs an aortic valve reconstruction using autologous pericardium. The main goal of the heart valve reconstruction is to restore the proper function of the valve. If the surgery is done properly it allows the surgeon to avoid using of an artificial valve and complications associated with it. The operation is based on Doctors Shigeyuki Ozaki method.

The following movie shows us the most important steps of the procedure. At first, the pericardium is harvested and treated with glutaraldehyde. Afterwards, the aortic valve is excised and the annulus decalcified. Then the three sinuses are sized and the new leaflets are trimmed. After the suturing is done the commissures are fixed with three additional stitches.
