Case description

The following video will highlight the technique of robotic Retzus space dissection and its benefits. This is video 3 of 10 in a series focused on robotic radical prostatectomy for localized prostate cancer.

In order to access the anterior prostatic space, the surgeon needs to enter a natural, avascular plane known as "Retzius space". This is a flimsy plane in front of the bladder which the robotic instruments dissect easily towards the pubic bone. This is one of the easiest steps to perform and generally takes less than 5 minutes to perform. Once at the pubic bone, the floppy bladder can be placed on tension by the robotic 4th arm or via an assistants grasper to facilitate further dissection of the endopelvic fasica and dorsal venous complex.
