Greenlight XPS - Step 7

This video shows a greenlight XPS prostate surgery for the treatment of male BPH performed by Dr. Kevin Zorn.

In step 7, with a pre-established marking down to the surgical capsule between 9'- and 7' - o'clock, the full 180W power is selected. The surgeon has the ability to:

1) vaporize using the slow sweeping technique to ablate tissue on the remaining stock attached to the capsule
2) vaparo-resect the large lateral lobe piece into smaller pieces for later retrieval

From an educational perspective, it is this step i allow my fellows and residents to start with since all boundaries have been created and marked. Injury to the bladder or sphincter should be at an extreme minimal. Analogous to hitting the baseball of a tee in Tee-Ball, the junior surgeon can simply work on the task of pure tissue vaporization with the laser fibre in a slow, controlled environment.
