The Global and Chilean Epidemiological Panorama 2022 is a report that presents an overview of the health situation in the world and in Chile. Regarding Organ Donation and Transplantation Activity, Chile has had an organ donation rate of 7.2 and 7.4 per million inhabitants in the years 2020 and 2021 respectively. Regarding waiting list mortality, Chilean data show a mortality of 17% in patients waiting for lung and up to 32% for liver. The low rate of organ donation, the high mortality on the waiting list and a projection towards an increase in demand, make it important that as a country we can explore all options to improve and enhance access to organs suitable for transplantation.
