Case description

Video case: this lady had a slowly growing 12mm lung nodule in the posterior segment (S2) of the right upper lobe of her lung. Attempts at biopsy were unsuccessful. Given the possibility that this nodule represents a lung malignancy, we performed a pulmonary segmentectomy to remove the nodule. The Da Vinci Xi robotic surgical system was employed. It has the advantages of facilitating a minimally invasive technique, allows excellent 3D magnified visualisation of the surgical field and its wristed instruments allow accurate and precise dissection of tissues. Surgery was performed by Dr Cheng-Hon Yap, Dr Michael Seitz and the robotic surgical team at University Hospital Geelong, Australia. Her post-operative course was uneventful. She was discharged from hospital on the third post-operative day.
