Case description

Laparoscopic subtotal cholecystectomy is an acceptable method of preventing bile duct injuries in "difficult" gallbladders. However, in some cases of hourglass gallbladder, misinterpretation of the narrow part of such gallbladders with the cystic duct may be the cause of subtotal cholecystectomies. Subtotal cholecystectomy is associated with postoperative cholecystitis due to retained gallstones that may necessitate resection of the gallbladder remnant.
