Case description

The image shows confluent superficial ulceration, and loss of mucosal architecture. The clinical severity of ulcerative colitis depends on both the length of colon involved and the severity of colonic inflammation. Severe ulcerative colitis is manifest by more than eight bowel movements daily, nocturnal bowel movements, severe urgency with or without incontinence, and systemic signs including low-grade fever, night sweats, weakness, and weight loss. Abdominal tenderness, tachycardia, anemia, leukocytosis, and hypoalbuminemia are common.
