Case description

Biopsies obtained just below the squamocolumnar junction (six o clock) revealed specialized metaplastic epithelium (intestinal metaplasia), diagnostic of Barrett's disease, short segment of Barrett's, confirmed on biopsy. Peptic strictures are sequelae of gastroesophageal reflux–induced esophagitis, and they usually originate from the squamocolumnar junction and average 1-4 cm in length.
