Case description

A thorough endoscopic examination of the esophagus is essential for diagnosing varices and identifying bleeding sources. A cirrhotic patient with hematemesis referred for endoscopic therapy. After a careful examination, we found a small ulceration on a grade 2 varix. Suction at that point induced the bleeding, controlled with band ligation.
