Case description

Aortic aneurysms are common consequences of atherosclerosis, hypertension, overexertion or traumas. Frequently, they are also connected to genetic diseases, such as Marfan syndrome. Usually aneurysms don't cause any symptoms and they are diagnosed accidentally. Hovewer, big aneurysms can be perceptible through shells as big, pulsating tumors. Also, they can cause pain in lower back (in case of a abdominal aorta) or hemoptysis and hoarseness (in case of thoracic aorta). Big aneurysms, possible to rupture are treated surgically. The procedure can be performed with classical surgical access (through abdominal wall opening) or with endovascullar access. The second type of surgery is shown on the video above.
