Case description

This video presents transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP), which is designed to relieve symptoms by reducing the size of the prostate. It is also a diagnostic procedure. During transurethral resection of the prostate, an instrument is inserted up the urethra to remove the section of the prostate that is blocking urine flow. Tissue removed during a this procedure is routinely screened for the presence of cancer. TURP usually requires a stay in the hospital. It is done using a general or spinal anesthetic.
