Ivor Lewis procedure. Esophagectomy for cancer with 2F (two field) lymphadenectomy
Case description
Surgery remains a keystone in therapy for esophageal cancer. Thats why quality of surgical treatment is very important for the patient and disease prognosis.
There are two basis approaches in surgery for cancer of oesophagus - transhiatal (without thoracotomy) and trasthoracic (with thoracotomy). As we see this problem 2F (two field) lymphadenectomy and radical (R0) resection is a crucial point of the treatment. It must be the aim of open or minimally invasive surgery
According to this we believe that transthoracic (Ivor Lewis type) approach must be chosen for surgical treatment in patients with cancer of esophagus with intrathoracic localization.
In this movie you can view surgical technique of open transthoracic esophagectomy with lymphadenectomy in both - abdominal and thoracic cavities.
