Case description

Autologous breast reconstruction methods provide stable satisfaction and improvement of the quality of life for postmastectomy breast reconstruction patients. The number of reconstructive procedures utilising these methods is falling, despite the fact that in some aspects they surpass implant-based techniques. The author of this article attempts to analyse reconstructive trends worldwide and refers to Polish conditions. The currently popular elective contralateral prophylactic mastectomy in women with unilateral breast cancer often leads to implant-based solutions. Free tissue transfer is a demanding procedure and poor reimbursement can lead to a decrease in the popularity of this method.
