Case description

Transnasal esophagoscopy (TNE) offers a convenient office procedure in which no sedation is used. Strict topical anesthesia to the nose is only required. In this patient, TNE revealed Barrett's esophagus. This is a transformation of the lining of the esophagus due to chronic acid reflux. In a small percentage of patients this area can turn into esophageal cancer (adenocarcinoma). Close surveillance is recommended.
