Case description

Transnasal esophagoscopy (TNE) offers a convenient office procedure in which no sedation is used. Strict topical anesthesia to the nose is only required. In this patient, TNE revealed fungal esophagitis. This is usually a Candidal infection of the esophagus. Candida infection is the most common infection of the esophagus. Treatment involves antifungal medication such as fluconazole or nystatin. TNE allows for esophageal evaluation without sedation.
