Case description

These acutely swollen and juicy looking tonsils covered with yellow debris and associated with palatal petechiae are characteristic of infectious mononucleosis. In this case, the tonsils are so large that they cause great discomfort in swallowing. Steroids were used to relieve some of the tonsillar swelling and as a consequence relieve the pain of swallowing.
