Piriformis Syndrome - Video Lecture
Case description
The sciatic nerve can be compressed by the piritformis muscle in the buttock. Piritformis syndrome may be associated with lower lumbar radiculopathy similar to spine pathology. Some patients may undergo a spine surgery without any improvement in the end. There is very little data concerning symptoms of this pathology. The patient may experience a buttock pain, that increases when sitting or driving, or tenderness in the sciatic notch. In the group of young individuals, bicycling or running can trigger the pain. The author lists other symptoms in the video. There are also listed various anatomical variations of the sciatic nerve. The diagnosis is commented. Additional test like MRI may be helpful. In the end treatment methods are explained.
