Cervical Spine - Decompression And Fusion
Case description
A cervical herniated disc can be a source of various symptoms. It can be removed through an anterior approach (through the front of the neck) to relieve spinal cord or nerve root pressure and alleviate corresponding pain, weakness, numbness, and tingling, that can be caused by increased pressure put on nerve routes. Decompression and fusion of the cervical spine can be done for one or multiple levels. The anatomy of cervical spinal region is shown. Then there is presented the discectomy itself. A fusion surgery is performed simultaneously in order to stabilize the cervical segment, that is operated. This type of surgery is done witch anterior approach, what gives the operator a better access to the spine and result in less postoperative pain.
