Case description

Robert F. LaPrade, MD, is a knee specialist and sports medicine expert with the Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colorado. Meniscus injuries are a common source of knee pain and knee instability for athletes and individuals who experience knee injuries. In lateral meniscus injuries of the knee, the joint line on the outer knee will often be tender and sore. In this short video, Dr. LaPrade demonstrates how he assesses a lateral meniscus injury by locating pain and crepitation along the joint line. At the same time, he applies valgus and/or varus stress to the knee. In most cases, if pain is presented at this exact location, it is evidence of a possible meniscus tear. Dr. LaPrade will order an MRI to confirm this diagnosis.
