Case description

This video demonstrates a radical resection of left distal femur osteosarcoma and reconstruction with a modular segmental distal femur tumor prosthesis. Limb sparing surgery is indicated for most bone sarcomas arising from the distal femur, selected soft tissue sarcomas that invade the distal femur as well as selected metastatic carcinomas that have resulted in significant bony destruction. Amputation is considered in the following situations: massive tumor size, encasement of pertinent neurovascular structures, poorly performed biopsy with extensive soft tissue contamination, pathological fracture, tumor fungation with infection, excessive leg length discrepancy. The video contains MRI scans, schemes, and the procedure itself.
