Case description

Hydatid cyst (echinococcus granulosus) of the brain is a very thin-walled cyst that can easily rupture. Therefore, to deliver it out of the brain, saline is used by pushing it gently and slowly through a Foley's catheter just behind the cyst. The accumulated saline will push the cyst to the outside gently to ensure intact cyst delivery. This procedure is called hydrodissection (Dowling Technique). Video by Dr. Ammar Hadi - neurosurgeon.
