Case description

Topic: Biliary INDOCYANINE GREEN FLUORESCENCE CHOLANGIOGRAPHY DURING A DIFFICULT LAPAROSCOPIC CHOLECYSTECTOMY. Breanna Fang, Jerry T Dang, MD, Shahzeer Karmali, MD, MPH. University of Alberta Bile duct injury in laparoscopic cholecystectomy occurs in about 3 per 1000 procedures and this rate can be higher in difficult cases where the gallbladder is inflamed and edematous. These injuries can be life altering and lead to significant morbidity and cost. Indocyanine green fluorescence cholangiography has the potential to reduce this risk. In this video, we demonstrate the use of indocyanine green fluorescence cholangiography in the case of a difficult, inflamed gallbladder to establish the critical view of safety.
