Acute Gastritis. helicobacter pylori colonizes the stomach for years or decades, not days or weeks, as is usually the case for bacterial pathogens, and this organism virtually always induces chronic gastritis; however, only a fraction of helicobacter pylori -colonized individuals ever develop disease.
