Case description

Pronounced Pigmentation of colonic mucosa. Sequel of chronic use of laxative of the anthraquinone group, which includes cascara sagrada, aloe, rhubarb, senna and fragula. Melanosis coli develops from chronic use of anthracene cathartic agents. The endoscopic appearance of melanosis coli can be quite varied. It may also occur in patients with inflammatory bowel disease.
