Case description

Anal Intra-epithelial Neoplasia

Philipp Narciso, MD

Two cases of Anal Intra-epithelial Neoplasia (AIN), a 60-year old white femalecame for a colonoscopy due to rectal bleeding. Colonoscopy showed diverticulosis, hemorrhoids, and a suspicious erythematous area at the recto-anal area. Biopsy showed squamous high-grade AIN with high-grade HPV. A 49-year old white male, known HIV, followed up in our Infectious Disease Clinic and came for a colonoscopy due to an anal mass of 4 months duration. Colonoscopy was negative except for the anal mass. The incision biopsy showed at least squamous AIN with high-grade HPV.

Learning objectives:
●Identify possible AIN lesions.
●Identify possible risk factors.
●What treatment modalities available.
●What post-treatment surveillance is needed.

This case was presented at the American Association for Primary Care Endoscopy 2011 annual CME Conference in Memphis, TN.
