Case description

In recent years, the provision of outpatient surgical services, including endoscopy, has become subject to numerous new laws and regulations. the provision of patient care in the office setting had previously been unregulated. Primary care providers of endoscopic services are more likely to provide these services in the office or outpatient setting. This lecture will use the example of the legislation enacted in Indiana to launch into an exploration and discussion of the regulation of services across the nation. The various regulating bodies are discussed and a plan to ensure compliance with new and changing standards will be presented. This lecture was presented at the 2012 annual American Association for Primary Care Endoscopy CME Conference in San Francisco, CA by Dr. Dale A. Patterson, MD.
