Case description

The heart pumps about 5-6 litres of blood in one minute, which gives about 7,000 litres of blood a day. To maintain the proper function of the heart the rest of a cardiovascular system needs also to work properly. Therefore, it is not uncommon to meet patients with multiple diseases of the cardiovascular system, as one disease can be a mainstay for the other.

In the following video a case of a 31-year old male is presented. The patient was admitted to the hospital with the symptoms of a chest pain and dyspnea. His past medical history was significant for an aortic coarctation treated in the age of 18 years old via subclavian-aortic bypass. In the hospital, the patient was diagnosed with chronic ascending aortic dissection and a severe mitral regurgitation. The patient was referred for a surgical replacement of the aortic valve, aortic root and ascending aorta with a valve conduit (25mm).
