Case description

Atrioventricular valves, mitral and tricuspid, have an important role of preventing blood regurgitation and allowing the blood to flow only in one direction. Unfortunately many heart diseases involve valves, causing stenosis or insufficiency. Stenosis occurs when the valve is narrowed, restricting the blood flow from the atrium to the ventricle. Analogically, the insufficiency occurs when the valve allows the blood to return from the ventricle to atrium. Heart valve diseases can lead to many serious heart problems, incluiding heart failure, therefore they must be treated properly. The following video presents a robotic assisted mitral and tricuspid valve repair due severe insufficiency. Presented by Charles Anderson, MD.
