Case description

This video shows a microscopic examination of the right ear discharge and suction clearance of the ear passage. It was caused by an inflammatory polyp showing as a reddish granulation emerging from the ear canal wall. An inflammatory polyp of the external auditory canal usually presents with serous ear discharge, tinted with blood or not, itchiness and reduced hearing. On examination the perforation of an ear drum should be ruled out. The treatment of an inflammatory polyp includes the elimination of the underlying cause e.g. infection or foreign body.
