Case description

Dupuytren disease is a fibroproliferative disorder characterized by progressive contracture and joint deformity, commonly seen in Caucasian males in their fifth to seventh decade of life.

- The disease affects the palmar fascia, with the central fascia being the zone of maximum activity, and the longitudinal, transverse, and vertical fibers being involved in the disease.

- Normal facial bands become diseased cords in Dupuytren disease, which progressively shorten and cause joint and soft tissue contractures.

- Spiral cords, which develop from pre-tendinous bands, spiral bands, lateral digital sheaths, and Grayson ligaments, cause neurovascular bundle displacement and joint contractures.

- Occupation, diabetes, epilepsy, and HIV have been associated with Dupuytren disease, but there is no causative association.
