Case description

Cartilage lines all of the joints in our body and is crucial for pain-free motion of joints. Unlike muscles, tendons, and ligaments, cartilage has very little ability to heal after injury. Therefore, when cartilage injury occurs to an athlete, it often requires some type of surgical intervention in order to return their previous level of performance. In this video, the doctor briefly outlines the surgical options available today. These include: microfracture, OATs (osteochondral autologous transfer), ORIF (open reduction and internal fixation), ACI (autologous chondrocyte implantation) and allograft (cadaver transplant). The video contains pictures, which helps the viewer to understand physiology and pathological processes. Presented by Dr. Clayton Lane.
