Case description

In this video, Dr. Lane explains how the biceps tears and demonstrates the surgical repair required. Anatomy images, xrays, MRI and clinical photos of the patient after recovery from the surgery are also reviewed. Typically distal biceps tears occur in middle aged male, often athletes. It results from the eccentric contraction of the biceps. And what that means is the individuals contracting their muscle trying to bend their elbow, but they are overpowered by the weight or the force and that causes the tear. They will typically feel a sharp pain and, or pop at elbow. The result is, without surgical repair - 25% loss of strength on elbow flexion and 50% loss of supination.
