Case description

Many cases of acute mediastinitis originate from the oral cavity, throat, or neck. Removing the infection from the oral cavity and effectively draining the neck increases the chance of victory in the fight for recovery. Treatment is multidisciplinary. A thoracic surgeon is the primary leader. The anesthesiologist keeps the patient alive. A maxillofacial surgeon can assist by eliminating the source of infection.
