Case description

Mirizzi Syndrome (MS) presents a significant challenge during laparoscopic cholecystectomy, increasing surgical difficulty, conversion rates, and the risk of bile duct injury. Typically, a cystic duct stone impacts parallel to the common hepatic duct, causing obstruction. The two most common types are: Type I, extrinsic compression of the common hepatic duct by impacted stones; and Type II, a cholecystocholedochal fistula. MS can be misdiagnosed as other obstructive conditions like choledocholithiasis, and ERCP often fails to remove the impacted stones. Currently, no internationally-accepted management guidelines exist. While laparotomy remains the preferred surgical approach, minimally invasive techniques are gaining popularity.
