Case description

Introduction: Lately, a spleen-saving surgery resulted more popular due to its important immunologic function as well as infection risk after the splenectomy. In the video a partial spleen resection with a minimally invasive surgery is presented. The patient was suffering from a splenic cyst of approximal size of 6 cm per 5 cm. Case report: A 37-year old lady with a 6 cm per 5 cm cyst in the spleen was directed to our hospital. The first time, the cyst appeared in the CT image in 2004 and then its presence was confirmed in 2009 without any size changes (it resulted calcified). Because cysts bigger than 5 cm can lead to a rupture in pregnant woman, the patient, who wanted to become pregnant, underwent a laparoscopic partial excision of the spleen. Organ function will not be damaged. All steps of the surgery are shown in the chronological order: positioning of the patient, trocar insertion, spleen dissection and bleeding prevention, division of the organ, coagulation and taking the specimen out of the abdominal cavity. The time of the whole intervention is 110 min. Results: After 2 days the patient went home and in pathological examination of the resected spleen the diagnosis of a pseudocyst with focal calcifications was made.
