Case description

A ventricular assist device (VAD) is a device used for partial or complete replacement of the function of failing heart. They are designed to assist either right or left or both ventricles. The used type primarily depends on the underlying heart disease. Some VADs are intended as short term use as an aid for patients recovering from myocardial infarctions or heart surgeries, while some are intended as long term use, usually in patients suffering from congestive heart failure or waiting for heart transplant.
