Case description

Many open heart surgeries require an introduction of cardiopulmonary bypass, which enables to stop and immobilize the heart during procedure. Typically the device consists of 2-4 pumps which sustain the patients blood flow and enable to retrieve the blood sucked from the operating field. To ensure a proper work of cardiopulmonary bypass an appropriate cannulation of the heart is necessary.

The following video describes the author's technique for aortic cannulation. Video by Arie Blitz, MD.
