Case description

I have developed the method of intra-operative tailoring of the pericardial patch for the total reconstruction of aortic valve. This method is based on the morphometry performed on cadavers hearts. I have found strong relationships between aortic root (inter-commissural distances) and valve leaflets (free edge length, height, commissural height and attachment line radius) parameters (JThCVS, 2000; 119: 386 - 387). This experimental study video shows the total autologous reconstruction of aortic valve using my method of pericardial patch tailoring. The method is very simple, reproducible and precise. There is no need for any kind of templates, molds or devices. The total autologous reconstruction of aortic valve is performed now by many surgeons (Dr. Carlos Duran, Dr. S. Kumar, Dr. S. Ozaki, Dr. D. Mazitelli etc) using different molds and devices for intra-operative tailoring of the pericardial patch. Good results are reported. Good follow up (up to 16 years) results are reported by Dr. Al Halees`s team. My method could make this operation much easier and more reproducible. This operation is a good alternative for the valve replacement or Ross operation especially for young patients. It is a stentless autologous valve.
