The main goal of the heart valve repair is to restore the proper function of the valve. If the surgery is done properly it allows the surgeon to avoid using of an artificial valve and complications associated with it. Traditionally valve repair is a open-heart procedure necessitating the usage of cardiopulmonary bypass and consists of several different procedures which allow the surgeon to separate leaflets, repair leaflets that are torn and reshape the parts of the valve, depending on the particular valve problem.
