- Description
- As one of the world's most respected and experienced heart centers, our entire team is committed to providing state-of-the-art and compassionate clinical care. Led by David H. Adams, MD, Chairman of the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, Cardiac Surgeon-in-Chief of the Mount Sinai Health System, and President of the Mitral Foundation, the Mitral Foundation created these case study videos and presentations to advance the field of treatment for mitral valve disease. Over 2400 surgeons, of all levels of experience, have come to Mount Sinai to learn advanced reconstructive mitral valve repair techniques from Dr. Adams and his team in the Mitral Foundation Center. We regularly lead mitral valve repair workshops around the globe and, to date, have educated surgeons from over 60 countries. The Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at The Mount Sinai Hospital has received the highest possible three-star recognition in all cardiac surgery categories in the 2020-2023 Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) report. Dr. Adams and his team perform over 400 mitral valve repair procedures annually, and he is the highest volume valve surgeon in New York State, according to the past several years' NYS Department of Health public outcomes reports. Our team has written and contributed to the textbooks and academic journals that define the field of mitral valve repair and heart valve surgery. Dr. Adams is the coauthor of the widest-selling valve textbook in the world, Carpentier's Reconstructive Valve Surgery, and the co-editor of the reference textbook Cardiac Surgery in the Adult.
